Amazon SEO is the work of making your product show up for the searches shoppers run. It starts with the words you use, then the listing, then the sales that show the listing works.
How Amazon search works
Amazon ranks products by how closely they match a search and how well they sell. Amazon does not publish its full ranking formula, so focus on the inputs you control: listing copy, price, stock, and reviews.
Step 1: Research your keywords

Search your product type on Amazon and note the autocomplete suggestions. Then read the top 10 to 20 listings and list the terms they repeat. Keep the terms that show buying intent, such as “amazon search optimization” or “how to rank on amazon,” and group them by theme.
Step 2: Write a clear title

Put your main keyword near the start. Add the product type, key features, and size or count. Write for the shopper who reads it. A title that repeats the same word reads badly and can lower clicks.
Step 3: Answer buyer questions in the bullets
Each bullet should cover one benefit and use the terms shoppers search for. Start each one with a short label in capital letters. Read your reviews and Q&A section for the questions customers ask, then answer them in your bullets.
Step 4: Fill the backend search terms
Shoppers cannot see backend search terms, but Amazon reads them. Use this field for spelling variants, synonyms, and terms that did not fit in the visible copy. Skip words already in your title. Amazon sets a character limit here, so check its current seller help pages before you enter your terms.
Step 5: Improve conversion
Ranking brings shoppers to your page. Clear main images, detailed product content, and good reviews help them buy. Track conversion alongside ranking, because a listing that ranks but does not sell is not a win.
Step 6: Keep stock and reviews steady
Keep enough stock to fill orders. Ask for reviews only through Amazon’s approved methods.
Mistakes to avoid
- Stuffing keywords into the title and bullets
- Changing the title often, which makes results hard to read
- Running out of stock
- Ignoring search data in Seller Central
- Using fake reviews or other tactics that break Amazon’s policies
Check your results

Use the search term data in Seller Central to see which searches led to clicks and sales. Change one thing at a time, then give it a few weeks before the next change.
